Granite has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for three consecutive years.

Each year Granite incorporates thousands of tons of recycled rubber, asphalt, ready-mix concrete, and asphalt roofing shingles into finished construction materials, including asphalt concrete and road base for local roadways.

At Granite, we believe that the prevention of accidents is not just good business—it’s our moral obligation.

In January 2010, four Granite locations received the Clean Utah seal of approval from the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.

Granite is leveraging its capabilities and resources to pursue work in new markets such as renewable and traditional power.

Compliance & Ethics

Granite has a tradition of and a reputation for ethical and responsible conduct and each employee is expected to maintain this culture at all times.

Our Commitment

Our Code of Conduct establishes an expected standard of behavior, defines how we deal with others, and determines how we hold one another and ourselves accountable.
We are committed to upholding our Code of Conduct and maintaining a compliance program that requires a self-assessment of our performance as well as communication of questions and concerns identified through the program.

Our Approach

Granite has established a Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program to define and govern the conduct that we expect of our employees, to provide guidance on questions related to business conduct and ethical issues, and to establish a process by which employees can report possible violations.

The Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program is a series of policies, procedures, and protocols that define the laws we must follow and that provide guidance on how we should carry out our individual responsibilities. It also identifies who is responsible for the oversight of the program and its activities, including a corporate compliance officer, a Compliance Committee, and field compliance officers.

A key component of the program is regular compliance training for our management, supervisory, and professional employees. We also maintain an anonymous hotline that employees can call to report concerns. Granite’s dedication to ethical and responsible conduct helps us fulfill our obligations while maintaining the trust and the confidence of our stakeholders that we will always strive to do the right thing.

“Granite has been honored by the ethisphere institute since 2008 for having one of the best overall government contractor ethics programs in the industry as well as for being one of the world’s most ethical companies.”—Terry Eller, Vice President, Chief Counsel, and Secretary

Code of Conduct

Granite’s Code of Conduct consists of two models: Core Values and compliance. Our Core Values are directly connected to our heritage—eight key elements that define who we are and what we do. They are honesty, integrity, fairness, accountability, consideration of others, pursuit of excellence, reliability, and citizenship.

“Boldly contending for that which is right and firmly rejecting that which is wrong.”—Walter Wilkinson, Granite Founder (circa 1940)

Compliance

Granite’s Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program defines and governs our employee expectations. It helps provide guidance on resolving questions related to business conduct and ethical issues and establishes a mechanism by which employees can report possible violations. Granite’s Compliance Committee conducts ongoing management, supervisory, and professional trainings on such issues as antitrust, government contracting, environmental compliance, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) requirements.

Granite’s compliance program maintains an anonymous hotline for employees to report concerns. This reporting enables our team members to safeguard the integrity of our company without feeling threatened. Moreover, Granite’s dedication to ethical and principled conduct helps us consistently do the right thing.

Granite actively recruits the best and the brightest construction professionals in the industry, regardless of gender, race, disability, or religious affiliation. We draw on the expertise of contractors and suppliers from DBEs, which has earned us recognition from such organizations as the US Department of the Interior, state and federal departments of transportation, and large and small business entities. We also support a number of minority mentor organizations, including 100 Black Men of America. Through these efforts we focus on improving the quality of life within our communities by enhancing educational and economic opportunities.
