Richard Watts is senior vice president and group manager of the Water and Mineral Services Group which includes the entities associated with Granite’s recent acquisition of Layne Christensen. He is also currently serving as general counsel, corporate compliance officer and secretary. Richard is responsible for delivering the corporation’s effective and efficient legal services and compliance program by developing certain company policies and procedures, which ensures that Granite adheres to applicable rules, regulations, and laws. He also works with Granite’s Board of Directors to satisfy governance requirements.
He joined the company in 2003 as division counsel and was named assistant general counsel in 2010. In 2012, Richard was appointed General Counsel.
Before joining Granite, Richard served as corporate counsel to Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. He also worked as an attorney for the firm Cokinos, Bosien and Young. Earlier in his career, he was a professional engineer for Turner, Collie and Braden, and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Richard received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University, graduating with honors, and received a J.D. from South Texas College of Law, also graduating with honors.
